Neurofeedback is a great way to help your brain work better—it’s kind of like exercise, but for your mind. I’ve worked with kids, teens, and adults, and I’ve seen it make a real difference for people of all ages.

For kids, I often use it to help with attention, learning challenges, sleep, or emotional ups and downs. For adults, it can be really effective for things like anxiety, depression, sleep issues, and even overthinking.

Here’s how it works: I measure your brain activity and teach your brain to create healthier patterns. As your brain starts to function more smoothly, things like focus, mood, and sleep usually improve, too.

And it’s not just for solving problems—it can also boost performance in school, work, or sports. I like to think of it as a tune-up for your brain.

Unlike tutoring or therapy, neurofeedback doesn’t just change how you think—it helps change how your brain actually works. When your brain is balanced, life just feels easier.

It’s actually really simple and totally painless. I start by placing small sensors on your head to measure your brain activity. Then, using special software, your brain gets real-time visual and auditory feedback—like a movie that plays when you’re focused and fades when your brain drifts. Before long, your brain figures out how to keep the movie playing by adjusting its own activity.

It’s kind of like learning to ride a bike or play a video game—your brain learns through practice. And once it learns these new, healthier patterns, it usually remembers them.

Over time, these changes can really improve focus, mood, memory, sleep, and even things like migraines or anxiety. Your brain already knows how to grow and adapt—neurofeedback just helps it do that more effectively.

Yes!  Students with disabilities who are not educated in a public school have access to support services through the North Carolina ESA+ program. Connected Learning is officially an ESA+ provider. If your child receives these funds, reach out if you are interested in neurofeedback and educational supports. Neurofeedback has shown promising results in improving attention, memory, and self-regulation skills in individuals with special needs.

Neurofeedback sessions are scheduled twice a week. Neurofeedback is cumulative and each session builds on the previous session. Skipping sessions slows down the overall process.  Sessions usually last 45 minutes. It is best to establish a regular appointment schedule that repeats each week.

Most participants complete a minimum of 20-40 sessions to establish improved brainwave patterns. Each week, participants are asked to complete a rating scale that tracks symptoms or problem areas they experience.

The brain map or qEEG, is an essential part of the process of establishing your Neurofeedback program. The data gives vital information about how efficiently your brain is processing and what areas of your brain may need remedial training. This non-invasive procedure employs electroencephalographic (EEG) equipment to evaluate brain wave patterns to determine where to make necessary changes to enhance brain performance. The four major frequencies of the brain that we measure are delta, theta, alpha, and beta. By comparing your EEG brain wave patterns to baseline data in our computers, we can determine how well each area, or your brain, is functioning. This valuable information will help determine the protocol to employ to achieve the best results with your neurofeedback program. The brain map results are combined with the other assessments that you complete to give me a complete picture of your individual needs.

Connected Learning combines technology and expertise to provide the potential for optimal benefit. There is a personalized approach to each individual's needs and goals, tailoring our services to meet their specific needs and preferences.
